Laundry Cost per Load & Year Calculator (Washer + Dryer)
See what laundry really costs. Enter your washer & dryer details (or use typical values), energy & water prices and how many loads you do. Outputs cost per load, per week, and per year, plus energy & water use. Metric & imperial supported.
How to use
- Choose units (Metric or Imperial).
- Set your loads per week and local prices for electricity & water.
- Pick a washer type and dryer type or enter custom kWh/L values.
- (Optional) Expand Advanced water heating if you want to include energy to heat hot/warm wash water.
- Click Calculate to see your totals and tips.
Worked example
Metric: 5 loads/week. Electricity $0.30/kWh, water $4.00/kL. Front loader (0.6 kWh, 60 L). Heat‑pump dryer (1.2 kWh).
- Per load energy: 0.6 + 1.2 = 1.8 kWh → cost = 1.8 × 0.30 = $0.54
- Per load water: 60 L → cost = 0.060 kL × $4.00 = $0.24
- Total per load ≈ $0.78 → per week (×5) ≈ $3.90 → per year ≈ $203

FAQs
What are typical energy & water numbers?
Modern front loaders often use ~0.5–0.8 kWh and 50–70 L per wash; heat‑pump dryers ~1.0–1.5 kWh, condenser 1.5–2.5 kWh, vented 2.5–3.5 kWh. Your appliance label or manual has model‑specific values.
Does hot water increase costs a lot?
Yes—heating water dominates washing energy. Use cold or warm when possible and run eco cycles to cut costs.
How do I get my local prices?
Electricity is billed in $ per kWh. Water is often $ per kilolitre (kL) or per 1,000 gallons. Enter what your bill shows.
Why is there an emissions option?
If you know the kg CO₂ per kWh for your region, you can estimate emissions per load and per year.
